The Best Way to Build a Deck Handrail
By Christopher Estridge
The way that we build our handrails for our decks is the best way a handrail should be built.
-What you do first, is rip down a 1 x 6 deck board in half, cut 4 pieces the length of the distance between 2 post.
-Make a mark in the center of that board and do a 5 inch layout off that mark, do this both ways. This is the layout for your 2 x 2 spindles.
-Lay your spindles on the marks and fasten them with a finished nailer using galvanized finished nails. Then cover your spindles with the other half, do this on the top and bottom.
-Now install your rail in between your post, after all sections are installed use a 1 x 6 deck board for a top cap.
This makes a great rail and it cant be twisted or pushed off the deck like other rails. Good luck with your deck project feel free to contact me if i can help.
